Abstract
This study aimed to examine reliability and validity of the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC) and to examine factor structure of resilience in a community sample of older adults in Korea. A total of 2,034 older adults aged 65 and over residing in a community in Korea participated in face to face interviews. The sample was randomly divided into two subgroups, and then exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were conducted for each group, respectively. Results of EFA supported the two-factor structure of the CD-RISC in older adults, with psychological resilience (factor 1) and social resilience (factor 2). Results of CFA indicated that this two-factor structure as well as the brief version of the CD-RISC had a good fit. Also, both the full scale of the CD-RISC and the 10-item brief version had good reliability and validity. In conclusion, the CD-RISC is a valid measure of resilience in community-dwelling older adults in Korea.
